Chris L McClish
"Many roles, many journeys, and one spirit!"
"I gained wisdom from my years of working with clients of all ages who have been in severe life circumstances. I love the balance of currently being in the role of a leader, motivator, while being responsible for public safety.
My approach to my life, as well as to those that I encounter, includes combining principles from contextual psychology, philosophy, and Aiki-Judo principles, along with the experience of having had many years of working to motivate people to make healthy lifestyle changes."
Education and Career
Currently, Chris enjoys working as a Probation and Parole Officer.
Chris has served the community as an author, psychologist, life coach, fitness trainer, Judo/Jujitsu coach, master mindfulness practitioner, and now has a career in a law enforcement role. He has also supervised others in positions such as being a clinical director, supervisor, and has been on the board of directors for mental health agency services. Chris graduated at the top of his class receiving a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology.
He has met many past famous psychologists and studied under many great teachers.
Additionally, Chris has:
Served as a topic expert, addressing mental health issues both in news outlets and electronic media articles.
Authored publications both in print and online, including two books.
Served as a mentor to mental health professionals including having positions of being a clinical supervisor.
Provided educational seminars to other professionals (psychologists, social workers, nurses, and doctors).
Taught many years as a martial arts coach in the martial art of Judo/Jujitsu (second-degree black belt).
Taken on a specialty caseload in probation and parole as being responsible for those with severe mental illness (SMI cases).
Currently he is certified and trained in law enforcement duties. In the past, he has held licenses and certifications in various capacities, such as having been licensed as a clinical psychotherapist, certified life coach, certified psychologist, certified fitness trainer, certified Judo coach and Master Mindfulness Practitioner.
A personal mission:
Because of having many life roles in the community, he has been referred to by many people as “Teacher”, “Sensei”, "Coach" and currently as "Officer".
Having studied under great teachers, Chris had gone from someone who started with no athletic experience, into becoming adept as a martial artist and a martial arts teacher. He attained the rank of Nidan (second-degree black belt) in the art.
Chris coached many athletes including both of his sons. He also served as a local, regional, and national referee. He became a proponent of a style of Judo/Jujitsu referred to by many names, but more recently as the “Empty Gi” style (Empty Uniform), also referred to as Aiki-Judo (which has an emphasis on eastern Taoist principles of yielding). Just like his psychology philosophy, his teaching in Judo has relied on the same premises.
